Project Cronos

Project Cronos is an attempt to present widely available public domain electronic texts in a form -- small web pages -- conducive to the addition of advertising banners.

In the event that project cronos succeeds, donations will be made to the providers of the texts, some of whom do not allow their trademarked good name to be used in connection such endeavors.

These texts are in the public domain, meaning that no one owns a United States copyright on or for these works, so you may, as far as I know, copy and distribute them without permission and without paying royalties. At least that's what the fine print that came with them says.

Thousands of works are available in the public domain, and the ones given the "cronos treatment" will be listed here, with links to them.
